Driving Home for Christmas | Elsie Robinson

I honestly don't think there is a better feeling than coming home after a long trip. I used to live away from home, and although the drive back was long, it was always so worth it. Nothing felt more comforting and welcoming than walking into a house full of Christmas decorations and seeing my family.

I also had that 'Driving Home for Christmas' song stuck in my head the entire time I made this layout, so apologies if that happens to you as you read this and watch the process video...

With this layout, I really want to encourage you to not so much scrap about a specific story or an event, but document how something makes you feel.

I think you can all agree that whether you celebrate Christmas or not, this time of year is super magical, so I wanted to capture that feeling by making a really whimsical and fairytale-esque scene about that drive home for Christmas!

One way I tried to convey this was by having a play with some of stamp sets and white holographic embossing powder. It adds the perfect bit of shimmer to the layout, and when it captures the light it really looks like snow and adds the perfect touch of magic!

The car did take a while to make, but I think it's super adorable. I now want my car to have pink wheels and be painted in that gorgeous floral from the Oh Deer kit... I hope I'm not the only crazy one who now thinks all cars should look this cute?!

The photos I chose for this layout, perhaps don't make much sense to anyone but my family and I, but these specific Christmas decorations always go on our tree so remind me of home. I really love the way they are nestled into the inside of the windows, which means that they work with the design of layout, rather being a featured as a separate focal point.

Adding little details, like tone-on-tone machine stitching and stamping on the background with some light inks, is a great way to give more definition and whimsy without busying up the design too much! Also the stamping echoes some of the pink and mint colours from other parts of the layout.
