11x14 Canvas "He Heals" | Lindsey LanningAug 13, 2020
Hello everyone, it’s Lindsey!
What do you do when you are late for a deadline, feel horrible, and your office is about a million degrees? Bust out a giant canvas and attempt a project you’ve never done before LOL. I absolutely love the floral paper from the Tori Collection this month and wanted to create something that would allow me to enjoy them more often than I would in my journaling Bible or scrapbook. Check out the process video for this canvas project at the end of this post.
I started by adding a layer of white gesso to an 11”x14” canvas. While the gesso was wet, I brushed in some minty blue and green paint to match the colors from the Tori Collection. I then brayered on some more white gesso and added some paint splatters for added texture.
I had already fussy cut several of the floral images from the Tori floral paper. To adhere them to the canvas, I put down a layer of matte gel medium, added the paper flower, and then topped with another layer of matte gel medium. This ensures that the canvas will stand the test of time without the paper curling or pulling away from the canvas.
I used a mix of the jumbo die cut letters and some alpha stickers to spell out my phrase from Psalm 147:3 (loose translation found on Pinterest) and adhered them in the same way that I did with the florals. I did not add matte gel medium over the top of the puffy alpha stickers because I didn’t want to mess up the soft matte finish that they have. I added an outline to the letters with some white acrylic ink to help them pop off the background a little more.
To finish off this canvas project, I painted some gold acrylic ink around the edges. I let the brush graze the front of the canvas so you’d get little peeks of gold from the front as well.
That’s it! A pretty simple way to enjoy your favorite elements from the Tori Collection while creating a piece of home decor. You could finish it off with a spray sealant if you really wanted to be sure that it would last but I left mine as is.
