6 x 12 Layouts | Kathleen Graumüller

Hey everyone, it’s Kathleen again and today I have not only one, but two layouts to share with you!

The layout on the right side actually started out as a 12x12“ page but in the process it just didn’t look and feel right to me. I kept pushing things around but still couldn’t find out how to “fix“ it. And then I thought, why not try something different?

I’ve been admiring Suzanna’s 6x12 layouts for quite a while now, so I thought I’d give it a go myself. I trimmed down the page to 6x12 and used the remaining white cardstock to make my second layout.

However, because that piece of cardstock was only about 5.5“ wide, I had to find a way to fill the missing 0.5“ so I just glued a patterned paper strip to the back on the left side. I then layered some smaller paper strips and that adorable acetate page tab (I almost couldn’t bring myself to use it because I had another project idea for this in mind) in between to create some dimension.

As I told you last time, I’m not a fan of my handwriting. And because I was afraid I’d mess up this layout which I was very happy with, and because there wasn’t any way to add some hidden journaling, I decided to use my typewriter to write some notes on a piece of vellum that I then sewed onto my layout with my sewing machine.

I’m not really sure what went wrong with the stitching on that upper edge, but I have learned to embrace mistakes like this and don’t worry about it too much. Messing up is part of the process and I’m not after perfection - which is a very liberating thought ;)

On the other layout I did add my journaling as hidden journaling again. This time mainly because there really wasn’t enough space left on the page to add it there.

I love those pieces from the die cut package that look like little notebook pages and wanted to use one of them for my journaling. But since they were too big to be layered underneath all that patterned paper, I used one of the journaling cards and my BigShot + a Hero Arts die to create the same look.

Although it still felt a bit strange, it was a lot of fun to try this new format. I remember feeling the same way when I made my first 8.5x11 layouts and now it’s my absolute favourite format, so I’m sure I’ll get used to the 6x12 pages as well :)

Hope you enjoyed those two pages! What is your favourite format for layouts? Have you tried the 6x12?
