Hello FJ friends! We are fresh off of International Scrapbook Day this last weekend and I hope everyone got some crafty time in to celebrate. This is Lynne again and today I am sharing a spread another spread from my Book of Me using the new Megan kit.
I have this habit when I get my kit in the mail of opening every single thing included and spreading out all of the goodies across my workspace. This has really helped me visualize some crafty projects I know I want to create with it. With this kit, the butterflies from the die cut shapes were calling my name as soon as I saw them. I had no idea what layout I would use them for, but once I saw the three black and white cut outs, I knew I would use them lined up on a layout somewhere.
Butterflies have always been a favorite of my moms and always remind me of my childhood since butterfly motif was a constant in our house. While searching for photos to use with this butterfly idea, I came across these two photos of me with my big sister from way back when. And I knew the bond I share with her would be a perfect story to tell for my Book of Me. I am using the A5 Dot Grid paper inserts as the base for all of my layouts in this album so these beautiful butterflies were the first thing I added directly to the grid paper.
I used a template I had created with my last layout to print journaling directly on the grid paper for the right side of my layout, then added some layers behind my photos, including fussy cutting the scalloped edge of the pink paper in the kit. These scallop edges seem to be a favorite of mine! I considered not even using a title, but the black script letters that come in the kit were so gorgeous, I decided to go with “our bond as the title in that awesome cursive font.
Another habit of mine is to stamp images on scrap paper as a test, then fussy cut them and move them around on the layout until I decide where I want the image to go. This came in very handy with this layout when I made a boo-boo stamping the larger butterfly, which is still pretty small and intricate. But no worries, I covered it up with one of my fussy cut images that looked much better.
The final touches were to add the puffy black heart from the kit and some word stickers and call it done.
A special addition to my Book of Me as a special tribute to my sister. Who are those special people in your life that you want to pay tribute to in your albums?
