Hey there again, lovely friends! Today is Mix-It-Monday at FJ, and it’s one of my absolute favorites! It means I get to pull out all of my beloved FJ stash and pair it with my new kits. As soon as I saw the floral paper in the Gabby collection, it felt instantly reminiscent of the patterns and colors in my current streaming obsession.
I’ve been binge watching season 2 of Outlander, and its setting is the luxurious French 1700s. The patterns and vivid colors are totally swoon worthy. I quickly set out to create a mood board based off the Gabby paper pack and those patterns and designs. I knew it would be perfect for pulling older designs and elements from my FJ stash to mix in my layout.

I have always loved origami birds, and I can recall making them all throughout my childhood. I decided I really wanted to incorporate one or two on my layout, so I made it a focus from my mood board. I chose 2 pretty solid papers from the Harper and Gabby collection. The mustard color and the gorgeous pink color would be the perfect pair to the floral pattern paper I wanted to use.
I decided on folding up two birds, so that they could carry along my photos in their wings. It felt so old-world gorgeous to me, and I couldn’t wait to see how it would translate onto my layout. I aligned them near the top and glued them down onto my patterned backed layout. I made sure they layered beautifully over that breathtaking floral paper, that reminded me so much of those French patterns.
Next I layered on my two photos, that I backed with another Harper paper. Those lovely golden dots were the perfect way to tie in some more of that gorgeous color. To anchor my photos to my birds, I sifted through my stash to find a pretty spun golden twine. It really lent itself to my overall vision. I stapled the twine to my photos, so they appeared to be carried away by my origami birds.
Next I ran one of the journaling cards through my die-cut machine, using the FJ tag builder. I knew I wanted to hide my journaling, so a tag was perfect to slide under my floral paper. I gave my tag even more flair with some cotton essential ribbon and more golden twine. I tucked it away under my patterned paper, after typing on my journaling.
I finished off my layout with some of the amazing puffy alphas! I used some of the Gabby alphas and Harper alphas to really get my title perfect for the color scheme. I love how the two mix perfectly together!
