Hello FJ Friends!
I love making cards to send to friends and family and I really enjoy the creative process of putting them together too. Today I have a set of three cards to share with you that I’ve made with the beautiful Capri Kit.
To begin I made the card bases by cutting three pieces of Essentials White Cardstock to 8.5 x 5.5 inches, then folded each one in half.
Once I had my card bases ready, I got to work on the designs for the card fronts! For the first card I had the idea of using the strawberry journaling card from the kit and using “you are so sweet” as the sentiment.
For the background I chose the solid light pink cardstock from the paper pack and the pink gingham paper from the 6x6 paper pack. I cut each one to 4 x 5.25 inches then cut the gingham piece in half diagonally before laying on top of the plain pink piece and adding some machine stitching.
I used a 2.75 inch circle die to cut the strawberry journaling card into the circular shape. I then pierced stitching holes around the edge and hand stitched a border using white embroidery thread. I added it to the centre of the background using foam tape to add a little dimension. Two strawberries were fussy cut from the “Strawberries” paper and layered them both to the left of the large strawberry using foam adhesive. I also cut a flower from the “Floral” paper and added it over the top of the flower on the right side of the large strawberry with foam adhesive.
I added the word “SWEET” using the Capri Puffy Alphabet Stickers onto a die cut label and adhered it to the bottom of the strawberry circle. Then to finish the sentiment I typed the words “you are so” onto white cardstock with my typewriter, cut it out, stitched across it and layered it onto the top of the label with foam adhesive. The finished piece was then adhered to the front of a card base.
For the second card I wanted to play around with mixing some of the gorgeous paper patterns together. I chose the pretty floral, pink gingham, yellow diamond and blue spotted papers from the 6x 6 paper pack and the “Scallops” paper from the 12 x 12 Paper Pack then cut a 3.75 x 1 inch strip from each. (This design is also a great way to use up your scraps!) I cut a piece of white cardstock to 3.75 x 5 inches and adhered the strips on top, before adding some zig zag and straight stitches to add some texture.
For the sentiment I typed the words “you are” onto white cardstock and added them to a yellow label sticker, then I cut out the “wonderful” word from the “wonderfully made” die cut and adhered it underneath with foam adhesive. The label was positioned to the bottom right of the patterned paper piece and I used some fussy cut flowers as the finishing touch before adhering the whole piece to a card base.
For the third card I cut the yellow diamonds paper from the 6x6 paper pack to 4 x 5.25 inches and stitched around the edge. I used a water pen to trace a rectangular shape onto some white tissue paper which made it easy to tear, then stitched it onto the centre of the yellow paper.
I added some twine to the top of the floral clipboard die cut piece and added it to the centre of the tissue paper with foam adhesive and stapled the twine at the top. I added some fussy cut pink flowers of the left side of the clipboard and used a die cut label for the sentiment which was made up of a “happy” puffy sticker and some typed words. I also made sure to use more foam adhesive behind the flowers and the label to extra dimension.
These cards were so fun to make and I love that I have more cards ready to go for next time I need one!
