December 2020 Sketch Challenge | Creative Team

Hello FJ Friends!

We have a brand new sketch challenge for you today!  This fun sketch has been created by our lovely Creative Team Member Lydia Cost.  Let's take a look!

Sketch by Lydia Cost for Felicity Jane

Here's Lydia to tell us about her sketch and the gorgeous layout she has created...

Scrapbook Layout by Lydia Cost for Felicity Jane

When I set out to create this month’s sketch, I was digging through some old layouts to inspire me, and I came across this lovely 8.5 x 11 layout from four years ago. It was a mess of mixed media and fun stitched circles, and I just knew it would be perfect paired with the Coco collection. I pulled open Photoshop and went about creating the perfect reflection of it for all of you in a sketch! I printed out the sketch and then started pulling papers and bits from the Coco collection. I knew I wanted to change the sketch up just a tiny bit by using one of the amazing “Merry” cardstock pieces as my title, but other than that, I wanted to stay pretty true to it. I had so much fun swiping on gesso, acrylic paints, and running my modeling paste through the amazing FJ star stencil! Next, I punched out a bunch of circles from my Coco papers. These I then ran through my sewing machine haphazardly, to create a whimsical feel to my mixed media layout. After I backed my photo with some more patterned paper, I had the main elements for my layout to come together. I adhered it all down with my PVA glue and foam squares. I feel like this one was a total mess of mixed media, but I still love the outcome, mess and all! I certainly hope you guys are inspired by this month’s sketch, because I had a lot of fun creating it for you!

Sketch Layout by Anna Blades for Felicity Jane

Hello FJ friends, it’s Anna!

I hope you all are doing well. This year, Christmas will be different, so let’s focus on simple things and take care of our loved ones. And also, having time to craft would be fantastic!

I really had so much fun with Lydia’s sketch, and I love how the layout turned out. In the sketch, there are flowers, circles, and stars. At first, I wouldn’t have put it all together, but the result is so magical.

I started with my picture in the center of the page, layered with two pieces from the 6x12 paint swatches from the paper pack. Then, I created two clusters, one on the upper left side of the photo and another on the lower right side. I fussy cut some flowers from the Flowers & Dotty stripes paper, and die cut some circles from the solid pink paper and the Plaid & Grid paper. I also used a piece of the Gingham & Woodgrain paper from the Noel collection. Instead of making some splatters, I decided to scatter some pink, green, and gold dots. I added three gold chipboard stars and some die cuts. Above the photo, I placed one of the chipboard flairs from Noel.

For my title, I used the word “December” from the Puffy stickers, and stamped the “ho ho ho” from the stamp set above it. Finally, I wrote some journaling in the spot between the photo and the title.

I hope it gives you some inspiration. I can’t wait to see your take on this wonderful sketch!

I wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy 2021 full of kisses again!

Anna xx

Team member Jana also has a gorgeous layout to share with us that she put together using the sketch!

Sketch Layout by Jana Bennett for Felicity Jane

What a wonderful sketch Lydia prepared! I had to admire all the lovely details and work with the graphics! I was tempted to go for a rectangle layout as well but needed to create a 12x12 page to fit my album. I wonder if anyone can see much from Lydia's sketch in my layout! I went totally freestyle! Although I was inspired by all the lovely circles, flowers, splashes and I adored the punched strip of paper underneath the photo. The big titles in the Coco kit are the best. The word MERRY helped me to fill the page and kind of guided me where to put what. As for the florals, I used only the white ones since the photo is quite busy with people and picture frames. Tell me one thing: when you do you splatters as the last step, do you also get so very nervous how this is going to end up?! But I love the final touch, it fills the white space nicely. I can't wait to see what you create!

Last, but certainly not least, we have team member Ulrike Dold sharing her fabulous take on the sketch...

December Spread by Ulrike Dold for Felicity Jane

I love love love the monthly Felicity Jane sketch challenge and today I want to show you my December album 2019 spread made with Lydia's wonderful December sketch.

I cut the wonderful powder pink solid paper from the Coco Paper Pack and my picture to 8 1/4 x 6 5/8 inches. I wanted to have the pretty scalloped border of the FJ solid cardstock on the bottom. The look of the scallop is so cute and so FJ like! Then I punched the holes for the 6 ring binder into them. I’ve used the wonderful black polka dot pocket front from the gorgeous Coco Christmas collection and glued it on the left side. Then I punched out circles in 5/8 inch, 1 inch and 1 1/2 inches from the following papers: Coco Stars & Gingham, Coco Flowers & Dotty Stripes, Coco Solid Cardstock Pink, Taylor Flowers & Stripes (because of the striped Christmas ornaments on my picture) and the green parts of the additional Coco color transition paper. I moved them on my double page to decide where to add them and where to add the chipboard number later.

Then I searched for some floral paper to fussy cut and found the amazing floral paper in black and white of the Felicity Jane Joy collection from 2017. I fussy cut some of the gorgeous roses and glued one on the right side on the top of my picture. Others I’ve placed on the left paper border on the left page, under the pocket front and on the bottom of my picture. I glued my circles and added the big number "14" with the pretty black Coco Chipboard number on a cluster of circles on the top of my big picture. I added the mint label from the adorable Coco Labels on the pocket and added the title "Tree" with the Coco Puffy Alphabet there. I cut a small journaling card from the FJ Essentials Cardstock in 3 x 4 1/8 inches and added a pink eyelet on the top. I knotted the gold trim from the Coco Grab Bag on it. Then I’ve printed my journaling and glued it on this card to have a hidden journaling. At the end I stamped some of these cute dots/tiny snowflakes from the Coco Stamp set here and there. I also stamped the words "The Magic" under the pocket. To finish off this spread I added the "Falalalalala" Puffy Sticker on the pocket front and added some of the sweet Megan Puffy Stickers with the hearts in black, pink and mint.

I hope you like my version of the wonderful December sketch. Cant wait to see what you will create.

xx Ulli
