Hey there, it’s Kathleen here with you today and I have another layout to share with you. For this one I mostly used the gorgeous Brie kit (seriously, it’s stunning and may be my favourite Felicity Jane kit ever, or at least very close to the Felicity kit) but I sprinkled in a few bits and pieces from some other kits, too.
This week’s theme is "vacation" and at first I wanted to make a layout to document all the places my husband and I have travelled to together over the years, using this photo that I took on one of our flights. I had already started to stamp all the city and place names on a white sheet of cardstock (with the Bold Alpha stamp set), but about halfway through I kinda gave up because it just wasn’t looking like I had imagined it.
So I had another look through the Brie kit, and when I came across the "spread your wings & fly" sentiment on the stamp set, I decided to use the same photo and interpret the theme in a more metaphorical way ;) (I definitely want to try my first layout idea again, another time, however, because I think it could look really cool.)
I matted my photo on a piece of patterned paper and a small glassine bag from my stash, in which I tucked a tag that I made out of one of the Brie journaling cards. I knew I wanted my layout to be very light and airy, so I didn’t want to put my journaling directly onto my page.
To make my photo stand out a little bit more, I cut out a frame from one of the patterned papers in the Brie kit and framed my photo with it - it happened to be the perfect size.
Of course, I had to use some of the layered butterflies on this page. I mean, how could I use the "spread your wings & fly" stamp and not use any butterflies?! ;) So I arranged them from the bottom to the top of my page to make it look as though they were flying across it. I also added some stitched lines to the two butterflies in the lower part of my page, and a few of the Brooke Bitty Puffy shapes to the middle of some of them, too.
I also wanted to add more butterflies, but didn’t want to use up the whole pack of the layered ones on a single page (and I was too lazy to cut some from the patterned papers, haha). So I decided to use the butterfly cluster stamp from the Brie stamp set and emboss it with some Satin Pearl embossing powder. I just wanted to add a very subtle and soft effect with those, that’s why I chose that colour instead of stamping them in black, for example.
To finish my page off, I added some gold paint splatters and a few more details here and there, like the ruffled up edge on the bottom of the page with some of the Brooke vellum beneath, and the scalloped puffy sticker that is peeking out from underneath the paper.
I really like the very light and airy feel of this layout and it is exactly what I was going for. I hope you enjoyed this page, although it doesn’t match this week’s theme 100% ;)
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Kathleen
