Friday Favorites | Journaling Cards | Lydia Cost

The journaling cards really are so gorgeous, and I admire them every time I get a shipment, but I always seem to either hoard them or neglect them. I haven’t nailed down the reason yet, but I knew how to immediately put a dent in my stash and make something gorgeous! I pulled down my stack of journaling cards and began pulling colors that sparked my creativity.

I made sure to pull some coordinating colors, that would pair perfectly with the blues and yellows from my bright and spring-y photos. These playground photos are some of my favorites of my little guy, because they really let the subject shine with the non-busy background. I think the bright happy colors pair perfectly with so many of the journaling cards in my stash, and isn’t that such a happy feeling?!

I’m sure some of you have noticed, but I’ve recently become acquainted with an older Fj floral cut file, and I never want to stop using it! It’s oh so gorgeous paired with any paper combination, and I knew my gorgeous journaling cards would not be the exception! I arranged my journaling cards on my cutting mat, so I would get some pretty colored, layered flowers. It was so easy to arrange the florals in my software, so that they were cut in 3x4 spaces.

After I had my florals all cut out, I layered them up and ran them through my sewing machine messily. This is one of my absolute favorite floral crafting tips. Layered florals always look so whimsical and gorgeous to me when they are messily stitched in the center. There is something just so magnetic about it for me, and I can’t get enough.

Next, I pulled out some coordinating 3x4 cards to adhere my florals and my photos to. I chose some solid-colored ones to back my photos and also some white space cards to make room for a title and journaling. It was so easy to pop all of my elements onto my cards after matching up my journaling cards with my project goals.

When all was said and done, I had given new life to a whole package worth of journaling cards. That really did bring me so much joy, and it solidified my love for those little 3x4 cards. They are always so expertly patterned and so versatile. You can use them for cut files or die-cuts, tuck them behind photos, rip a piece for some layering, or easily slip them inside your sheet protector pocket as is. I’m not sure I’d want to live in a crafty world without these gorgeous 3x4 bits!
