Hello lovelies :) It’s Kathleen here again and today I want to share my second project made with the gorgeous Autumn kit with you. Although I absolutely love the colours in this kit, for this layout I challenged myself to use a monochromatic colour scheme in order to really make my photo pop off the page.
And this kit was perfect to do that because there are so many great bits and pieces included that can add interest to a page through their unique textures - like the vellum and cork leaves, for example.
I prepared my 12“x12“ piece of white cardstock by applying some white gesso, letting it dry, and then adding a layer of interference gold paint using a bubble stencil. Then I layered my photo that I had matted on two pieces of black and white patterned paper and the backside of one of the journaling cards on top.
For embellishing this page, I used lots of different bits and pieces from the Autumn kit, but also from past kits. Of course I had to include some of the white vellum and cork leaves, since they worked so well with this photo. The black and white acetate pieces and the back star sequins are from the Felicity kit, and the white foam stickers and the little star die cuts from the Mila kit.
To repeat the leaf shape, I also used the leaves from the silicone charms package and the leaf stamp from the Autumn stamp set. I scattered all of the small pieces in a diagonal line across my page, so that the eyes of the viewer would be guided from left to right across my photo.
And since (almost) none of my pages is finished without some paint, I used my black Heidi Swapp Color Shine (sticking to my monochrome look) and added some splatters here and there, filling in the gaps between my embellishments.
I’m still not entirely sure if I want to keep the layout like this or if I should add a splash of colour somewhere. What do you think, keep it that way or add something? And if you would add something, what?
