I wonder what your favourite things about summer are? Kitty and I love nothing better than hanging out on our local beach. We love bubblegum-flavoured ice creams that run down our chins and digging little channels in the sand that fill with water as the waves roll in. But our very favourite thing of all is hunting for pieces of sea glass to add to our growing treasure collection.
I wanted to make a page that captures the joy and beauty of this happy season and knew that the gorgeous floral in the Brie kit would be perfect for the job.
One of my favourite techniques is to start my page with some strong - and slightly crazy - brush strokes in black paint. When this bold looseness is contrasted with the delicate detail of the embellishments, it can make for a really pretty end result. I think of it like pairing a biker jacket with a tutu - the end result can be surprising and rather fabulous!
My journalling started as a seaside poem about seagulls stealing your ice cream, but ended up being a sort of word jumble as my sentences were slightly too long for the page. A way around that might have been to tuck some hidden journalling behind a photo or even write the poem on the reverse of the page. I stitched my sentences down by running them through my sewing machine here and there for a random textural effect.
Have you ever embellished a layout with a fussy-cut Felicity Jane floral? I’d so highly recommend it. With their beautiful designs and delicate outlines, you really can’t fail to make a beautiful project - and throw on a few dainty butterflies, and you’ve got something really special. I’d recommend getting started the night before you want to make your project: perhaps pop a favourite show on and enjoy the calming process of snipping out your shapes - it’s actually rather therapeutic!
