Hip Hip Hooray Birthday Layout | Lynne Ashcraft

Hello FJ Friends,

It’s Lynne again sharing a birthday layout for a very special 5th birthday celebration week here at Felicity Jane Studios. Every month I seem to say this has to be my favorite kit yet, and this month is no exception! Jenny is definitely my favorite kit ever! I love the colors and all the elements that as always are not only good for this month’s theme but are versatile and can be used in so many different ways.

Today I am sharing a layout I intend to use in my annual album. I have not really done any event based pages in several years and I actually miss it. I decided to go back through the last two years and create monthly pocket pages in 9x12 format and will add some event based layouts in between that are specific for that year. My son’s 7th birthday party from last year was a great opportunity to start this. I had this one photo of him with his best friend that I knew I wanted to scrap. And I absolutely loved the 6x6 paper pack that coordinates with this month’s kit. I knew I wanted to use the Happy Birthday text paper and highlight the one color Happy Birthday part of the paper with my photo right above it.

Because these papers are so darn pretty, I had the idea to use hidden journaling behind my photo so I could really highlight the papers and photo as the centerpiece. I measured my photo first and cut the heart patterned paper from the kit to the width of the photo by twice the length. I left the bottom strip of the paper as the base of my measurement so that I could utilize the scallop border already printed on the bottom. Then I scored the cut piece down the middle to fold in half. I glued my photo on the front half of the piece and then adhered the full piece to my background. I then added a tab from the die cut shapes with a word sticker added to it to the side of the photo to make it easier to flip open.

On the inside of the flip open piece, I glued in my journaling. The opposing side of the journaling felt like it needed a little embellishment so I stamped out the Love This sentiment from the stamp set and fussy cut it and added an extra layer of cardstock behind it before adhering it to my layout for a little extra dimension. From there I added a fussy cut blue scallop strip from the kit papers and the Today die cut tab directly to the back of the tab I had already adhered to the front of the piece.

I played with a few of the remaining die cut shapes and ended up adding this Hip Hip Hooray sentiment on top of a label for a quick and simple title and a little added color for the front of the layout. I had already stamped and fussy cut out a few of the images from the kit to play around with and ended using the three little hearts stamp just below my title.

After adding a few extra elements with the pink chipboard star and an additional word sticker directly to my photo, I adhered the full background to two additional layers of color paper and called it done. I am super happy with how this turned out and excited to add this to my 2018 album.

I am super excited to see what everyone creates with the Jenny kit this month and all of the birthday themed goodies. What are some favorite birthday memories you are planning to get scrapped this month?
