“Lego Fun” A5 Notebook Spread | Lydia Cost

“Lego Fun” A5 Notebook Spread | Lydia Cost

It’s of no surprise that my 6 year old boy is completely obsessed with Legos. Our totes and bins are starting to overflow with them, and he’s certainly not stopping. As you can imagine, I’ve spent a lot of time documenting that hobby of his. My A5 notebook is getting full of photos of my little, and for this set of photos I wanted to do a fun Lego-inspired background.

I pulled out the amazing collection of Ginny papers, and I knew they would be the highlight of my background. I decided that they would be perfect for cutting out a bunch of “lego pieces,” using my one-hole punch. I cut rectangle pieces to 2” x 1.25”, and then I measured out 12 even holes on each piece. I punched the first piece and then used it as a template for the rest of my pieces. I mixed in a few smaller rectangles that had 6 holes too.

After I finished punching all of my “lego pieces,” I began arranging them around my background. Once I decided on a design that allowed my photos to nestle in, I used my pop dots to adhere them to the page. I left room for each of my three photos to fit in perfectly with my grid Lego design.

I layered up my photos using another sheet of Ginny patterned paper. I think it really helped the photos feel like an extension of the Lego rectangles. I added in a little tissue paper, to help the photos really pop off the page.

Then I layered my title on the left side. I aligned the “Lego” on its side, so it nestled in perfectly next to that “Fun” die cut piece. I think the geometrical alignment of the title really adds to the Lego feel of the whole spread.

To finish off my spread, I added in some of the amazing layered stars in the Ginny collection. I added in one with the new size of paper clips, and the others I adhered with some pop dots. They did an amazing job of highlighting my photos even more so.

With a few stamped on stars and a journaling tag, my two-page spread was finished. I really love the way the patterned papers were highlighted with those fun lego punched shapes.
