Hi FJ friends!
Mandy here with you today to share a layout for our ‘outdoors’ theme this week! The photo that I documented is of my eldest daughter, Abi and I, and it was taken when we were outside enjoying a beautiful spring day when we were house-sitting for my parents last year. I love this photo, because I think it really captures our affection for one another. I wanted to use a soft and pretty colour palette for this layout, so I decided on using a combination of the Brooke and Alexis kits, which I think work perfectly with one another!
Here’s my layout…
I started off by cutting up strips of patterned paper in various widths and lengths, and arranging them on my white cardstock background. I didn’t want them all to be straight, so I adhered some at an angle, which I think gives them some extra interest. I also added some machine stitching through some of them, and I distressed the edges of them a little to add lots of texture to the page. I decided to matte my photo with vellum, and I also added some craft foam underneath it to give it some extra dimension and help it to stand out from the patterned papers.
For my title I used one of the gorgeous puffy word stickers from the Alexis kit. I absolutely LOVE these!! They’re so soft to touch and they look so pretty!
To create lots of interest on the page, I tucked some of my embellishments under the edge of the paper layers, and others I adhered with foam tape. The embellishment that says ‘This’ was cut out of one of the 3x4 journaling cards. Because I don’t do pocket page scrapbooking, I like to look for different ways that I can incorporate those cards onto my projects.
The die cuts that I used were from both the Brooke and Alexis kits. You’ll notice that the embellishments flow from the bottom left hand corner of the page, up to the top right, which helps to draw your eye to the important elements on the layout, such as the photo and title. I added a little bit of stamping at the top of the page using one of the stamps from the Henley kit, and then I finished the layout off with some gold sequins (also from the Henley kit), and black ink splatters.
This kind of design is great for using up those scraps of patterned paper that you might have left over from previous kits. I had lots of fun creating this page, and I love how it turned out!
I’ll be back later in the month to share another layout with you! Until then, take care friends.
