Hello friends!

Are you ready for our November sketch challenge?  Creative team member Ulrike Dold has come up with such a fun design for us to work with this month so let's take a look...

Sketch by Ulrike Dold for Felicity Jane

I'm loving all those circles cascading down the page, don't you?  Here's Ulli to tell us all about her sketch design and the gorgeous layout she has created to share with us...

Sketch Layout by Ulrike Dold for Felicity Jane

Hi FJ friends!

The monthly FJ sketch challenge is my favorite of each month and this time it was my turn to do it. I think in the end of November you are all in the Christmas mood and so I’ve decided to use the wonderful Felicity Jane Noel collection from last year and some papers from the Taylor and the Gabby collection. Everything is in black and white and pink and I love the playful look with the circles inspired from the Chipboard Flairs.

For the 12x12 page I’ve used the wonderful white Felicity Jane cardstock. I cut a piece of paper to 3.5 inches from the "Floral & Stripe" paper from the Taylor collection and glued it on the bottom. I used the part with the paper strip on the bottom, which looks a little bit like tiny snowflakes for me. Then I used the Gabby "Gingham & Bold Stripe" paper and cut only the two pink stripes from this paper. I moved the paper under the paper border of the Taylor paper. Then I glued the pinkish Jenny Cardstock Fringe under my black and white picture and glued it with 3 D dots on my page. I glued the tab "oh, Christmas tree" under it and glued the Snowflake die cut from the Noel collection on the lower part of my layout. I added 3 of the Noel Cardstock Circles on my page and then some of the wonderful Noel Chipboard Flairs. I’ve played with the height of all the circles and used for some of them 3 D dots too. I decorated my picture with the wonderful mini wide paper clip in dusty rose. Then I glued my title in two lines on the right side besides my pictures and used a striped chipboard ampersand from the previous Amber collection there. I stamped the date with the FJ Roller Date Stamp beside my picture. Then I used the little snowflake circle stamp from the Noel stamp set and stamped many of them around all the other circles. I also used the cute "Joy" circle stamp from this stamp set on the left side of my page. I splattered black ink across the page and at the end I used Hannah Epoxy Dots, Amanda and Brooke Puffy Shapes and Megan Puffy Hearts to set some accents here and there.

I hope I could inspire you!

xx Ulli

Team member Lindsey Lanning has also created a beautiful project inspired by the sketch.  Here she is to tell us all about it...

Sketch Notebook Spread by Lindsey Lanning for Felicity Jane

Hello everyone, it’s Lindsey! I like to challenge myself to find different ways to use 12x12 sketches so I used this month’s sketch as an A5 notebook layout. I liked the look of the black and white patterns in the sketch so I stuck with that theme but also added in pops of gold to change it up a little. Gold heat embossing cardstock and using punches is an easy way to get gold elements without having to have specialty papers or gold foiled embellishments. I also gold heat embossed different patterns using the Jaimee stamps to get that iconic FJ look, but in gold, and then punched some hearts out.

I had to get creative with scale since I was working in an A5 notebook so I paired some grid washi tape with the striped vellum to also add some texture to this otherwise simple spread. Speaking of scale, don’t be afraid to use your journaling cards like a patterned paper since the pattern is usually smaller (that’s what I punched some of the circles out of).

I love the mix of patterns on this spread and I was able to control the chaos by sticking to a neutral color palette!

Next up we have team member Tiffany Julia to share her adorable binder spread that she created from the sketch...

Sketch Binder Spread by Tiffany Julia for Felicity Jane

Hey everyone!

How fun is Ulli's sketch this month?!

I tried my hand at replicating it in my Note to Self binder. I created this spread with a photo of my pup Joey being all cosy and comfortable on my bed. I began by adding some black ink splatters to my page before building the layout. I layered two different pattern papers along the bottom, much like in the sketch. I then matted my photo on that pink stripe paper from the Taylor kit and tucked a tab and some of that Gabby cardstock fringe behind it before ruffling the edges a bit to give it that distressed handmade look. I then embellished around it with different circles.

For the circles, I used a mixture of the puffy circle stickers from the Tori kit along with some circles I punched out of the Taylor pattern papers. For the smaller circles, I used the Tori epoxy dot stickers in various colors and scattered those about the spread.

Since the right page had a lot of blank space, I created a big title using the new jumbo die cut alphabets. I spelled out "Cosy" then in the Tori puffy alphas, I added "Joe." I added a "beautiful" epoxy sticker under that, along with a puffy bow sticker in pink, to add a bit of that bright pink color to that corner.

I really like how simple and minimalistic this sketch is, yet it's pumped full of movement and texture. I definitely enjoyed creating this spread!

Sketch Layout by Sheree Forcier for Felicity Jane

When I saw this sketch I knew I wanted to use it for one of the pages in my December album for next month. This cute photo of our guinea pigs in their new Christmas themed “caravan” I already had set aside to include in the album and although it is a different orientation to the photo in the sketch I was still able to make it work for my page.  One of the things I love most about sketches is that they give you that jumping off point and then you can put your own spin on it!

My layout is the same size as the outside dimensions of the page protectors in my album – 7 x 8.25 inches. I wanted this page to be outside the page protector since there is hidden journaling behind the photo.

I added some Coco Plaid paper across the bottom and a strip of dotty paper from the Katherine Kit across the middle before positioning my 3 x 2 inch photo in the middle of the page.

I like to keep my December pages clean and minimalistic so instead of using many circles down the page (even though I love the design), I used one chipboard flair to the left of my photo, then scattered some stars and tiny gold dot stickers around the page instead.

My title is the number 2 next to the photo. I plan on using it for day 2 in my album but if it doesn’t work out I can always swap the number for another one. I will also punch the 6 holes down either the left or right side of the page when it comes time to add it into my album, depending on where it will fit into the page order.

I hope we've inspired you to try the sketch for yourself!  We would love to see what you come up with so be sure to share your work with us either on the Felicity Jane Facebook Page or use #fjsketchchallenge when you upload it on Instagram so we can check it out.

Thanks so much for joining us on the blog today!
