October 2020 Sketch Challenge | Creative Team

Hello FJ Friends!

Are you ready for another sketch challenge?  We've got an awesome new sketch for you today that creative team member Jana Bennett has designed for us.  Let's take a look...

Sketch by Jana Bennett for Felicity Jane

This is such a versatile sketch and I love that this design has multiple photos on it too!

Here's Jana to tell us all about the beautiful layout she created from it...

Scrapbook Layout by Jana Bennett for Felicity Jane

Hello everyone,

I have a real challenge for you today! As you may well know I love using lots of photos in my layouts so when creating the sketch I went for loads! Quelle surprise you might say :) I had these autumn photos from a trip we took last year to the park and my daughter's coat goes so nicely with the kit - she must've known :) I just had to use this wonderful pattern paper and showcase it in full as it definitely deserves. On the left hand side there is a strip of photos but please feel free to use there some embellishment or journaling cards. I wouldn't want you to get stressed from using too many photos. Crafting should be fun!

For decorating the photos I went for some Taylor die cut shapes and chipboard asterisks from Shay (One of last year's kits). I also used the tag builder - metal die set which is my most favourite metal die set from Felicity Jane. Such a universal thing!

I can't wait to see how you put your layouts together! It is such a pleasure to see your creations on Instagram or in the FJ facebook groups!

Team member Anna has also used the sketch to create this pretty page too...

Scrapbook Layout by Anna Blades for Felicity Jane

For my take on the sketch, I started with a piece of Essentials White Cardstock. Then, I trimmed a 6 inches wide piece of the Swiss Dot & Diamond paper, placed it in the center of the page, and did some machine stitching. On the left side of the page, I put two photos and one of the journaling cards, all of them matted with the solid color cardstocks. I also used two die cuts and epoxy stickers to embellish them.

On the right side, I placed the main photo. I raised it with foam and made a little pocket, where I put a tag with my journaling. I glued a label on top of my photo with one of the clear epoxy stickers. In the lower right corner, I put this cute die cut with a little piece of the plaid washi tape.

The title means "mushrooms hunters". Here in Catalonia, we really like to go mushroom hunting in autumn. And that particular day we found a lot of them! So it deserved a layout :)

I don't usually put multiple photos in my layouts, but with this sketch, it was so easy. Can't wait to see your takes on it!

Finally, we also have creative team member Lydia Cost with a gorgeous traveler's notebook spread to share that she put together using the sketch...

Traveler's Notebook Spread by Lydia Cost for Felicity Jane

I fell so hard in love with this month’s sketch. It was honestly perfection, and I know I wouldn’t have thought of this composition myself. It had so much room for creativity and photos or journaling. There is so much working for this sketch, that there are a ton of interpretations you could have from it. I know I’ll be using it many times over. For this one I decided to go with a TN spread. I love how it translated prettily inside my FJ TN notebook. I loved the areas of patterned paper on each of the edges, and I love that it encouraged me to use lots of photos on my spread. I included three in similar places on the sketch, to emulate all those rectangles. This month’s alphas were perfect for aligning that title along the edge too! It was the perfect sketch for documenting our hiking trip to the Garden of the Gods.
