Patterned Paper Spotlight │ Japanese Bound TN Book │ Lydia Cost

Hello again, friends; it’s Lydia Cost again today, and I’m back to share a fun project with the Bailey kit! This month I really wanted to try something new, and I had a blast learning some fun new techniques for book-binding. I found myself so smitten with the papers this month, that I knew whatever I created needed an abundance of those beautiful papers in it!

I tried my hand at a little Japanese Book-Binding, and I’m a little bit in love with the result. You certainly can’t create any mini album or book without the help of some amazing patterned papers, and they lent themselves to such a pretty TN-sized book. As soon as I finished the binding, all the pretty papers were just calling me to dive in and get started. That’s how you know you have some special paper!

After sorting through my patterned papers to find a cover, I then picked out several sheets to fill the inside of the my little book. I also mixed in some vintage pink book pages, that had some amazing illustrations perfect for this time of year. Since I intended to fill these pages with lots of mushy love stuff, I made sure to include lots of pretty hearts, pretty girls, and soft colors.

Next came the fun part of binding my book together. I used Paige Evan’s WRMK book-binding kit to achieve this. It makes it convenient to punch holes; however, you could measure out your own design just fine. I strung it all together with a pretty pink and white baker’s twine. I left some of the twine in excess at the top and bottom to be able to add charms and ribbon onto the spine.

I mixed in different sizes of papers, recycled the sequins packaging, and included the pretty scalloped papers too! This all made for the perfect place to start laying down page foundations. I started my little February book with a title, and I then gave my first page a little love. I typed a letter to myself about what this little book’s purpose was for the month of February.

After that I couldn’t help but get to work on the first couple of pages. Given the different types of papers and sizes of pages, I had so much to work with. Each day I journal in this little book, I’ll have a unique space to remember the day and moments!

This is so beautiful. I love the colors and the pocket with the buttons is a great idea. I often struggle to use buttons. This is a cute idea.
