"Right Now" A5 Notebook Layout | Shannon Dombkowski

Hello, FJ friends! Shannon here sharing a project focused on the amazing patterned paper in the Annie kit. I love the bright and happy patterns so I knew I wanted to use any many as possible in my A5 notebook. The confetti paper inspired me to start with a bunch of die cut circles and see where it took me.

I wanted to add a fun interactive element to this layout so I decided to make a flip out to hide my journaling. I wanted to keep the circular element so I used a compass to draw the circle and cut it out freehand. I folded the circle in half so I could adhere the back half underneath my patterned paper background.

Since I had so many patterns going on, I decided to use a black and white photo on the opposite page for some balance. But I couldn't stay away from color completely! I used a border punch to make a fun little edge for my photo using the rainbow striped patterned paper.

So what did I do with the circles that I die cut in a variety of sizes? I used them to line the outside of the large circle flip out. I arranged them before adhering so I could make sure that I had a good variety of sizes and colors.

Once I had all of the circles adhered to the edge, I found a few Annie die cuts to put around the edge. I like the little bit of interest that it adds. The die cuts break up the monotony of circles around the edges, but it doesn't take away from the look that I was trying to achieve.

Finally, I even arranged my journaling labels in a semi-circle underneath the flip-up to keep to my circular theme.

Sometimes I forget how versatile patterned paper can be. This was a great exercise for my creativity as I thought of different ways that I could use it on my layout. I hope that I've inspired you to pull out your patterned paper and use as much of it as you can on your next layout!

xo,
Shannon
