Summer Getaway Layout | Lynne Ashcraft

Hello FJ Friends.

It’s Lynne here sharing a traveler’s notebook layout I created using this month’s Elizabeth kit. The summery colors of this kit mixed with some of the awesome stamps from Hello Sunshine stamp set had me totally inspired to document some beach photos.

When it comes to creating TN layouts, I have been a photo layering fanatic. This is something I typically do not do on my traditional layouts so I have loving trying out this technique and how it turns out on the smaller size. I started this layout with a larger size photo of my son, which I knew I wanted to be the highlight on the spread, and added some layers of blue and yellow behind it. From there, I added the solid yellow paper at the top and bottom to help ground the layers to the page as well as add in some more yellow balance.

My habit of stamping out all of my favorite images continued. I loved this sunny days stamp with the little sunshine row above it from the kit. I stamped the sentiment in black and then added the sunshine layer above it in a yellow ink that coordinated with the kit. This helped me create a great embellishment to add below my journaling strips.

I had originally stamped out a bunch of images from the Hello Sunshine stamp in black ink on white cardstock and tried coloring them in. But the colors were just not quite right, so I decided to try stamping on some patterned paper scraps I had left from my layering below my photo. And I absolutely love how they came out! I used the summer die cut for the main focus of my title and then added the fussy cut stamped images as embellishments around it.

The final touch was one last embellishment by adding the Hello Sunshine cardstock sticker to the left side. This helped tie in all the yellow and add a little flair to balance out the top and bottom of that side. And I called my layout done!

This summer has been a little crazy and we were not able to take a trip to the beach again. But whenever a kit like this inspires me for certain themes, I can almost always think of a photo from years past that I can use and never documented. How about you? Do you ever pull out photos from years gone by because the product inspires you to?
