Let's have some fun with design today! There are certain basic layout shapes that I tend to gravitate towards over and over. The diagonal cascade is one of my very favorites. I decided to combine it with some of my favorite bits from the Summer Kit to create this layout about a weekend trip to the shore my and husband and I took.
I pulled out one of my favorite neutral papers from the Summer Kit - this blue watercolor wash is a perfect background for a busy design. Next, I placed the two photos on opposite corners and began to build out from there.
The first layer includes all the large pieces - the photos, journaling card, frame, map card and hotel die cut. To begin the diagonal cascade, I used the hotel die cut as a grounding spot for the lower left corner. I sprinkled a few circle die cuts, chipboard pieces, stars and a flower die cut down to the lower left edge. A tiny big of stamped text adds some words (repeated in the journaling) and more of a punch of black.
To continue the cascade, I ran it through the chipboard frame using a large hello die cut and chipboard bits to pull the design into the upper right. A scattering of stars, stamped starburst and a small flag finish off the diagonal cascade of embellishments.
Last up is the title. A simple, clean font that fits in just in between the diagonal design. It gives the eye a place to rest and underlines the photo. Perfect! Creating on a diagonal is that simple. Just keep building layers in one direction and scatter small and larger pieces across your page. It's amazing how many times I've used this technique, yet every page looks distinctive.
Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope the diagonal cascade gives you a starting point the next time you sit down to create with your Felicity Jane kit!
