Tips & Tricks: Using Kit Extras to Make A Mini Book | Suzanna Stein
Hi friends! So happy to be back sharing another post with y'all. I don't know about you, but at the end of the month I'm usually left with a bunch of scraps from my favorite papers in that month's kit. They're usually not big enough to create a full layout, or even a mini layout, so they get placed in the scrap box for when I may need them on another project.
The Felicity kit was one of my absolute favorites and I couldn't let those extra bits just sit there. So I'm sharing a fun way to turn your extras at the end of the month into a notebook/journal.
Start by getting all your extra pieces together. Choose your biggest piece and fold it in half to create your cover. I squared off my edges, but you could totally leave them rough for some fun dimension!
Layer up your other scraps in the order you'd like them in. I added some plain white card stock throughout to give some full pages for writing or journaling.
Clip your pages to a punch board or a thick piece of cardboard. Poke holes in the spine (I just did three), making sure you get at least one hole in each sheet. Some "pages" may be shorter or different sized, so they won't have all three holes lined up. It will still work just fine, as long as you have at least one hole that can hold each piece in place!
Use embroidery thread and a needle to thread the pages together. If you're unsure where to even start on this step, you can Google how to do this and there are tons of detailed videos out there. It's super simple though, I promise!
When you're done threading and it feels secure, trim off the extra thread. I always make sure I end on the inside so the extra thread is hidden. This time I used a little Tombow liquid adhesive to give the loose thread an extra hold and it worked SO well!
That's it! You're all set to start adding in your memories. These are perfect for so many things other than just using your extras. You can make one for someone's birthday as a book-style card, they're quick and easy to make for your littles, or you can just put them together as a fun way to document your memories.
I love the extra dimension that the pages have from using my left overs! And if you're like me and ran out of all your embellishments, don't forget you have the subscriber printables and the stamp set to add a little fun to your projects long after your main kit elements have been used!
I'd love to know how you use your extra bits and pieces from the monthly kits! If you give one of these a try, be sure to share it with me and the rest of the FJ Creative Team!!
