Hi everyone! Mandy with you today for this week's 'Inspired by' blog post. Who else is inspired by new products? There's nothing quite like opening a box of new scrappy goodies to get the creative juices flowing, right?! Well, with my first Felicity Jane kit, I received two gorgeous traveler's notebook inserts, and I'm going to share with you how I was inspired by these. Now first I have a confession to make... before this, I had no idea what a traveler's notebook was! I'm pretty much a 12x12 layout kinda girl, and I don't often stray from this format, but the longer the traveler's notebooks sat there, the more I was intrigued by them. I really wanted to give them a try, but wasn't sure what I wanted to use them for. After thinking about it for a bit, I decided that I would use them to document the everyday little things that my youngest daughter and I do together during the week. My thought is that by the time she goes off to school (which is still three years away, but I know it will go quick!), that we will have notebooks full of fun little things that we've done together over the years. Once I came up with this idea, I was excited to get started! I even received a lovely Websters Pages Traveler's Notebook for my birthday last month (after dropping a few hints!)... Yay!
The Felicity Jane September 'Felicity' kit was just perfect for decorating the cover of my first traveler's notebook insert!
How cute is the pom pom trim that came in the kit?! I love the detail and texture that it adds to the cover of my traveler's notebook! I also added one of the cute little doilies that came in the August kit and the word 'Happy' from the acetate shapes pack. It's quite a simple cover, but by adding just a few Felicity Jane embellishments, I think it looks really pretty!
Using some more goodies from the Felicity kit, I created my first traveler's notebook spread! This time I pulled out the pinks and aquas from the kit, and added a few pops of black for contrast.
This is sort of an intro page to the notebook. I picked a recent photo of my daughter and I together, and journaled about how much I love our time together and that I don't want to forget any of the little details.
The colour on the inside cover of the notebook clashed with the colour palette that I wanted to use for this layout, so I covered it with some pretty aqua patterned paper from the Felicity kit. I cut the speech bubble out of one of the journaling cards and used one of the stamps to add this cute phrase to it. I finished off the left hand side of the layout with a pink circle/heart from the sticker sheet, a black acetate star, and a couple of the cute star sequins (I've been using these on everything lately!).
I used a couple of the journaling cards to create some layers behind my photo and then added the word 'loved' underneath the photo. The acetate pieces in this kit are so awesome, and they are available to purchase separately in the Felicity Jane shop! I also popped one of the cute flair buttons on the right hand side of my photo.
I added my journaling, and then stuck two of the stickers from the cut apart sheet down in the bottom right hand corner. I finished the layout off with some more stars... I used the acetate ones, an acrylic one, and the sequins!
I'm so glad that I received those traveler's notebooks and that they inspired me to try something new! And I must say, after completing my first traveler's notebook spread... I'm hooked!! I think I'll always love my 12x12 layouts, but you will definitely be seeing more traveler's notebook spreads from me in the future too! If you haven't tried them out yet, I hope I've inspired you to give them a try!
