Hi FJ friends!
Mandy here today to share my first project using the stunning Shay collection! I created a traveler's notebook layout, documenting a recent photo of my hubby and I together. All of the colours in the Shay collection are so beautiful, and I can't wait to create some projects using the gorgeous pinks and corals in the kit, but for this layout I decided to focus on the mustard yellow. I combined it with some pops of black and white, and a few hints of mint green. I think it looks quite striking, and by keeping the colour palette simple like this, it allows the photo to really stand out!
For the left hand side of the spread, I started by adhering a strip of the yellow floral paper down the inside edge of the page. I also tucked the scallop branding strip off the mint solid color paper under the edge of the yellow paper to add another little detail.
I decided to make use of the lovely thank you card that Jeana included with the kit and I adhered it to the middle of the left hand page. I think it helps to balance out the black in the photo on the opposite page, and it also provides a nice pop of contrast. I also added a small die cut heart to the card underneath the word 'hello'. I finished the left hand page off with a few of the chipboard asterisks. I chose the white ones for a subtle tone on tone look.
Next I covered the right hand side of the spread with the black and white petals patterned paper. I then added a couple of layers behind my photo using a 3x4 journaling card and a die cut tag. As space is limited on a TN layout, I find that layering is a great way of including little glimpses of colour and pattern on a page without taking up more space. It also helps the photo to stand out more.
You might know by now that I'm a huge fan of combining different fonts and alphas to create my title. For this layout I used a combination of stamps/dies, a cardstock ampersand, and a puffy word sticker! I LOVE the new Reagan alphabet stamp and die sets that were released last month! The classic font makes them so versatile, and even better is that you can use them over and over again! I stamped out the letters for 'you' and 'me' and then cut them out using the metal dies. I combined these with a yellow ampersand sticker from the collection, and I completed the title with a little puffy word sticker that says 'together'. The last detail that I added to the layout was a cardstock + foam arrow sticker on the right hand side of the photo.
Thanks so much for joining me here on the blog today! I'll be back later in the month to share some more 'Shay' inspiration with you!
