My Mug Layout | Lynne Ashcraft

Hello FJ Sisters! It’s Lynne here again sharing a layout I created using the Denise kit. I started with the story on this one and had no idea how I wanted it to come together, so I played with the photos and text a bit in Photoshop to resize, move things around, and come up with a general idea.

I was inspired to channel my inner Sheree Forcier and sew on this layout. It took a bit of practice on some scrap pieces and I still made some mistakes, but all in all, I am happy with the result. I see more stitching on layouts making an appearance in my near future.

The title was actually what took me the longest to create. I think I tried a dozen different combinations of letters and placements before I finally dug through the Denise Die Cuts and this yellow label jumped out at me. Once I found that, everything came together for the title by adding a small strip of the grid paper on the label and the letters on top of that. And of course, as I was building it, I noticed a typo in my journaling. But oh well! Moving on....

I knew I wanted to use the yellow Happy puffy sticker from the kit, but it felt like there was too much space using it by itself at the bottom of the text. I had a scrap piece of the grid paper left over so I added that behind the sticker and a couple of the puffy hearts for some added color and embellishment.

The final touch was a little tie in of the papers and elements by adding some paper strips to the left of my photos. It added just a small pop of color to the left side, but also helped tie the papers together and maintain the linear symmetry. And here is the final result.

I have to say, with all of the traveler’s notebook and pocket page layouts I have been creating lately, I sometimes miss a good old-fashioned traditional layout. Creating this layout was refreshing and restored some creative mojo for me. Have you reminisced about missing anything in your creativity lately that you feel a draw to start creating again? Give it a shot! You never know what else it might inspire in you.
