Next Chapter Layout with Fussy Cutting | Kathleen Graumüller

Hey there, it’s Kathleen here with my first post for the Felicity Jane blog in the new year. :)

I’m sure by now you have all seen how gorgeous the Reagan kit is and have already gotten lots of inspiration from my fellow creative team members! For my layout I was inspired by the beautiful flower die cuts and that flower patterned paper and wanted to do some fussy cutting.

Before I had even picked the photo I wanted to use, I started fussy cutting a handful of the flowers. Before selecting my photo, I had another look at the stamp set and the words in the ephemera package. My first thought was to create a layout about some goals I set myself for the new year or something similar, since the stamp set revolves around that sort of thing.

But then I noticed the “Take the next step“ and “Just the beginning“ and immediately thought of a photo of my husband and me on our wedding (in November last year). I think the stamps fitted perfectly - the “saying YES to new adventures“ couldn’t have been more perfect for my photo. ;)

The process of making the layout was a bit of a struggle and I think it was because I had been working on my December Daily for so long (I shared my foundation pages here on the blog in December and you can also have a look at the finished album here :) ) and felt like I had forgotten how to make layouts. :D

I wanted to keep the colour scheme very bright and light since my photo was in black and white and I felt that the darker colours in the kit would distract from it. So I just added some pops of the navy blue with the envelope I die cut (and where I added my hidden journaling), one of the ephemera hearts and some more small pieces here and there and arranged them in a visual triangle that would pull the eyes of the viewer in to my photo.

To be honest, when I was done with the layout, I wasn’t really convinced and sure if I liked it (probably because I was a bit fed up with it but you can see why in my process video ;) ). But now that some days have passed, I do kinda like it - even though it ended up being a lot fuller than I had planned in the beginning. But that’s just how it goes sometimes, I guess.

Thanks for stopping by! If you want to see how this layout came together, you can watch my process here:

See you soon!
