Hello Lovelies, its finally December and Christmas is coming.. some of us are excited, some of us, maybe not so much.. For me, December is the one month where I can completely decorate my home and transform it into a sparkly, glitter bomb of baubles and tinsel. I just adore decorating my home and this year I have taken it upon myself to celebrate one very creative Christmas.
It is only natural my first project this month should be a creative decor project. Christmas crackers can sometimes be a little boring. Working in retail, I see my fair share of plainly decorated crackers and of course, the ones I do like are too expensive just to bust open at the end of Christmas lunch. So, I decided this year I would make my own.
When I first saw the kits and all the beautiful black and white patterned papers, I knew I wanted to create some kind of ombre effect with the different tones. So instead of creating a set of six identical crackers, I decided to create an ombre set of black and white crackers (hang in there with me girls, ombre black and white is totally a thing).
Sometimes, making multiples of the same design can leave us feeling creatively drained, and definitely not in a good way. Whenever I am creating multiples of an item, I tend to change the design or products used to ensure I am always entertained and enjoying the process. In the case of the six Christmas crackers, each one was the same design, same template, they all had ties, but the ties wer different. The papers were different, the decorations were different, but it is always important to have a theme in mind to keep them all looking like they belong to a set.
My constants for this design were the black and white base patterned papers and the beautiful gold, pink and red sequins.. When you look at the crackers together they all share the same colour story and belong together, even though every single one is different. Create original designs for each member of your family with cute little notes, designs they love or even the initial of their name. You holiday guests will love the individual details you put into your christmas spread.
The templates for DIY Christmas crackers are super easy to find. You can either google, print and cut, or you can jump over to the Silhouette store and find your ready made templates waiting for your Silhouette to cut them out for you.. I hope you will all accept my challenge of the most creative Christmas ever. I would love to see your own custom designed Christmas crackers.
Have a very Merry Creative Christmas my friends! The girls here at Felicity Jane have some awesome creative projects for Christmas and we would love it if you all followed along..
Love always,
Nae xoxo
